HOLT — Rev. Dr. Glenn M. Wagner, “Pastor Glenn” to his congregation at Holt United Methodist Church will preach his final sermon in a special service of worship at the church at 10 a.m. on Sunday, June 1.

The public is welcome to attend.

The worship service, which will also recognize the congregation’s graduating high school seniors will be followed by a reception for the honorees.

Wagner, the 45th pastor in the 161-year history of the church, has been appointed by Michigan Area Bishop Deborah Kiesey to serve the Church of the Dunes in Grand Haven.

He will be followed in Holt in July by Rev. Mark Erbes who is moving with his wife Annette from his most recent appointment at Lake Harbor United Methodist Church in Muskegon. Mark and Annette are natives of Okemos.

During Wagner’s eight years of pastoral leadership for the Holt Church, the congregation retired its debt, made its building more accessible and energy efficient, greatly expanded mission outreach to the community and was heavily involved in Christian leadership training.

Down to earth style

Wagner was valued for his down to earth and practical preaching style and as a teacher of Disciple Bible study.

He was named “People’s Choice” pastor for Holt three times. He provided leadership for the Lansing District Board of Church Building and Location and currently serves as chair of the Nominating Committee for the West Michigan Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church.

He led the church through an important two year study and refocusing on its primary disciple making mission and was known for his passion around his core value for ministry that, “in God’s math, everybody counts!” Wagner’s wife, Nancy, was recently recognized by the East Lansing City Council for her years of valued service as secretary for the council.
